AI x Media Production is a two-week masterclass that blends hands-on media making with sharp critical thinking. You’ll explore five core AI modalities—text, imagery, video, voice, and music—then stitch them into production pipelines aligned to clear communication goals. Alongside tool practice, we tackle ethics, authorship, bias, and creative agency, so you know when to use AI, when not to, and how to justify the choice. Expect case studies, rapid prototyping, structured feedback cycles, and to create and reflect on making media with AI tools. Ideal for students and professionals who want capability—not hype—in an AI-first creative landscape.

 How the course works;

 The course will run in two phases:

Online learning: The first week and a half is delivered via AUT’s online learning platform, with structured activities and guided resources to build your base understanding.

Intensive workshop: The course ends in a three-day, in-person intensive workshop where you’ll work directly with lecturers. These sessions will focus on collaborative activities, integration of tools, and the real value of face-to-face dynamic learning.

This course is relevant to:

  • Professionals who want to get up to speed with creative generative AI and learn how to integrate it into their workflows and pipelines.
  • Students seeking a focused opportunity to explore generative AI in digital media production.
  • Public sector and government workers who need to understand how generative AI is being used, alongside the ethical, regulatory, and social implications.
  • Anyone with a general interest in how generative AI can reshape creative practice, processes, and communication.

 You will cover

  •  AI text, image, video, voice, and music tools
  •  Pipeline design for digital media production
  •  Ethical and critical frames: bias, privacy, authorship, labour
  •  Case studies of industry use and misuse
  •  Workflow prototyping and integration
  •  Reflective practice and justification of creative choices

This is your fastest way into the AI and generative AI landscape—building confidence quickly with the tools, understanding their limits, and learning how to integrate them effectively into your production practice.
